I train for my health, my family, and for hiking!
Growing up I played basketball and baseball, tried track for a year, and then played tennis through high school, but what became my favorite recreational pursuit was hiking. During college I would sneak off for quick backpacking trips into the San Gabriel mountains north of Los Angeles. I have also enjoyed some running along the way, (5k, 10k, Half-Marathon, Marathon), but hiking still remains as my favorite escape. Highlights have been Blue Lake in the Cascades, Joshua Tree National Park, and hiking for weeks in Nepal with my brother to reach the summit of Kala Patar at 18,514', able to view Mt. Everest up close and personal. Several years ago I found strength training as a way to improve my health, posture, energy, fitness and strength, all of which increase the enjoyment of everything from reaching summits to playing with the kids! Since then I did an internship with Jon Chacon at Snohomish County Strength and became a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
